( heh! it’s called having a distraction, jeez! even he needs those sometimes. so, he’s still rummaging around in that bag and pulls out an astronomy book to hold up, too. that one, he taps with his finger. )
I like this one. Which reminds me.
( at that, a box is pulled out that’s a make your own astronomy model kit. )
[This is incredibly thoughtful and Accelerator can't stop himself from being put off by that. Jon shouldn't be wasting his time on him, he's got Damian and his parents and hopefully other people who aren't murderous killjoys to hang around. This is weird and uncomfortable and Accelerator isn't sure how he's supposed to manage this situation in a way that doesn't involve yelling and possibly making a small child cry. It's what he would do with Last Order, since she can just shut off his brain functions if she gets too upset, though Yomikawa's lecture about being nicer floats through his mind.
He stares down at the model kit, and then the books he's holding, and sighs heavily.]
I'm not putting that together. It thing belongs to you. All of this shit belongs to you, so you should be the one enjoying it.
( an olive branch to reach out to him? gently dressed up a little but it’s there.
adding one more thing to the books accelerator holds in the form of a space puzzle, he ties up the handles of the plastic bag then and straightens himself up as he smiles to the other kid. )
I’ve got too much and thought you could either use it yourself or maybe set it up at the farm for others.
[Despite all the complaining, Accelerator takes the puzzle. He's frowning, unsure what to do with all of this, and so latches onto Jon's suggestion of the farm.
Okay, yeah, that's doable. One of the other kids might be interested in this stuff too, and that way he isn't turning down Jon's offer to much as putting all of this in a space where people who aren't just him can enjoy them. That makes accepting his kindness a little easier.]
... Yeah, fine. There's space in the farmhouse for all of this. [Bookshelves for the comics and books, the kitchen table and living room for the crafts. It's fine, he's got a plan of action!!] I'll drop this stuff off later.
[And then he shifts his weight from foot to foot, hesitating a moment.]
[Even if it's just him reading the comics. If Jon is going to the effort to bring all this stuff over then he can put in some effort to make sure someone enjoys it.]
[ The fact that Accelerator's immediate answer was "no" says more than the rest of it. If Accelerator recognizes that the act was wrong then he hasn't given up the struggle to do better, no matter how murky it seems to him. ]
We'll never ask you to do that on our behalf. But I won't walk away just because you did.
[ He doesn't think Harold will either, not from Accelerator, but he can't guarantee that. After all, Harold left when they were asked to kill the senator. But Harold believes in second chances, in doing better tomorrow, and John feels confident that Harold wouldn't give up on Accelerator; John can tell how much the teen means to him. ]
[He shifts his weight, unsure if whether he should say anything or brush Jon off. Jon went to a lot of effort to bring him this stuff, and it probably can't hurt, so....
He inhales slowly.]
Don't spread it around, but I'm staying here instead of the apartments for a little while.
( at that, he nods, gaze drifting down in thought for a moment. )
Well. If you ever get bored of here, you can always sleepover at my place. I mean... I'd need to get a sleeping bag and extra pillows, but there's space and you know my mom and dad, so. It's not like you're a stranger.
( smile quiet but hopeful, he nods to accelerator. )
[Jon means well. Accelerator knows that. That's probably why it hurts when he hears the offer. Kindness is being extended to him and all he wants to do is crawl into a hole.
He sucks in a deep breath, and decides to forego the easy option of just dismissing the kid.]
( he knows how this goes, more or less, so. it's why he makes the offer — leaves the ball in accelerator's court without pushing. as long as he knows he has a place to go to — someone to reach out to even for something as childish as board games, it's there for him to take whenever he might need it. no questions asked. sometimes that's easier than outright saying you need some company or a distraction from everything. so it's there and jon intends to leave it as such.
plastic bag crinkling in hand, he swings it over his shoulder and nods to the other. )
I'm going to make sure everything's good at the farm. If that's ok with you, I mean.
( his father hasn't deigned it necessary to take care of scarecrow just yet, so calling the man out likely isn't something he should be doing, but. accelerator is, to an extent, one of damian's. and damian won't lead his people astray. )
[Ugh, he'd like an explanation, but he doesn't think Damian is the kind of person to give warnings like this out over petty grudges. He'll take a minute to go scan the network, eventually finding the conversations in question.
And he's torn. He'd love to be petty in this instance.]
Fine. 102802 is a bastard, but Finch gives a shit about him. I'll let him know.
[One other thing....]
Talis replied to him, too. I'm going to message him.
[Accelerator stares down at the carrot, the knife in his hand, silent for several long moments. They won't ask him to do what he did, confirmation that he screwed up, but John is also saying he won't leave over it. That's... that's irresponsible of him. He shouldn't be bothering with a child that is comfortable with torture and murder. No reasonable adult should.
But he won't leave. That's reassuring, isn't it? It means he isn't alone here in Etraya. Accelerator isn't totally sure he can believe that, he's spent most of his life being on his own, but he wants to trust John that he isn't lying.
He closes his eyes for a moment, and when he opens them he finishes cutting up the carrot (poorly).]
... Okay. I'll try to remember that for next time.
[Jon is a good kid. Lois and Clark are lucky to have him around, even if he maintains that it's shitty for any child to be stuck in Etraya. It's hard for Accelerator to accept kindness from other people, but he tries his best here.]
Yeah, fine. I really need a nap, so that'd be helpful.
[He... hasn't been back over to the farm since before the mission. Since before he died. It'd be good for someone to go check in on the place and make sure it's in one piece.]
